Transport links

Do you need to get into Central London easily yet seek a home based in one of London’s greenest boroughs? Enfield is the perfect place for you. You can hop on a train at the borough’s key London Overground stations like Enfield Town, Winchmore Hill, Enfield Lock and Edmonton Green to reach the centre in approximately half an hour. For those who may wish to skip the overground, the borough also has London Underground stations that connect you straight to the Piccadilly line, including Southgate and Oakwood.

Driving in Enfield is similarly swift and easy. If you want to get straight onto the M25 you can do so by heading to the north of the borough. At the southern parameter of Enfield you can reach the North Circular Road (A406). Between this you’ll have access to major roads like the A10 and A111.

Education

Enfield has over 100 schools, including 26 primary schools. The area focuses on accessibility for all so there are 6 special needs schools in the area.

Enfield Town used to be a small market town in the county of Middlesex on the edge of the forest about a day's walk north of London. Since this time the area has blossomed and grown. Enfield Town Railway Station has a plaque there to commemorate the school where John Keats the poet was taught. This is something that has filtered into the general vibe of the area which is home to amazing venues like The Dugdale, a bustling arts centre located in the heart of Enfield Town, EN2. You can even dig into some local history as the Museum of Enfield and Local Archives are based within. The theatre features an exciting and innovative programme of work that includes comedy, poetry, music, drama and children's theatre. To see more larger scale work, check out their sister venue Millfield Theatre in Edmonton. 

Enfield Town Shopping Centre is full of any amenities you would need. With shops like Topshop, the department store Pearsons, a Waterstones and a Maplin. The name Palace Gardens was given to the shopping centre as a nod to the fact that Elizabeth I used to live nearby in a palace when she was a princess! 

Nearby, is the renowned Enfield Grammar School, founded in 1558, which since the 1960s has been a boys' comprehensive, but has retained its original name, and still uses its Tudor building which is now often referred to as the Old Hall. 

Enfield Town Park is one of the area’s largest parks where fireworks are hosted every year on Bonfire Night. Nearby, Bush Hill Park has a well-established golf club for those looking for great opportunities in sports and recreation, this is a great place to start.

Capel Manor Gardens are one of Enfield’s many hotspots. A short journey from Bullsmoor Lane , within these gardens you’ll find scenic delights like a Japanese Garden, various Water gardens, Rose gardens, and even a maze. Perfect for your Sunday time off. 

Enfield Chase 

Enfield was recorded in Domesday Book in 1086 as Enefelde: that is 'open land of a man called Ä’ana', or 'where lambs are reared', from the Old English feld with an Old English personal name or with the Old English word Ä“an 'lamb'. 

The feld would have been a reference to an area cleared of trees within woodland that would later become known as Enfield Chase. The heart of Enfield, Enfield Chase is full of joys that many can discover. This includes Windmill Hill in EN2 where you find landmarks such as Enfield War Memorial. The area has lots of pretty shops and boutiques including Déjà vu, here you’ll find lots of stylish furniture and decor. 

On Whitewebbs Lane you’ll find Enfield Transport Museum and lots of nearby farms ready for summer strawberry picking.

On the drive over to Hertford Road you’ll notice that many local activities are located around the A10 road, on the sites of former industrial enterprises, which has a number of large retail outlets and a large multiplex Cineworld cinema. 

Hertford Road is full of thriving multi-cultural markets and wonderful restaurants like Aksular Restaurant, a family-run business serving up barbecued meats. Follow this up with a short walk to Golden Baklava for a range of freshly made desserts or an evening trip to the local confectionary that serves up toasted and sweetened walnuts.   

Cockfosters is a well-connected area within Barnet in EN4 where you can head straight onto the Piccadilly Line for a quick tube journey to central London. Locally you’ll find Trent Park which is home to a Grade II Listed English country house, together with its former extensive grounds.

Winchmore Hill, N21 is an area where community spirit is vibrant. Here you’ll find an excellent range of detached homes, full of character along with spacious family homes. Local schools here are excellent. The children from Highfield Primary School have been working for three years with poet-in-residence Cheryl Moskowitz to make poetry central in the curriculum. They recently performed at Dugdale Centre in Enfield Town. This area is often home to markets and workshops that bring together vintage lovers, interiors bloggers and foodies come together. With community venues like St Peter's Church putting on great events in the area including an Autumn Fair. St Paul’s are just three minutes' walk from Grange Park train station. 

Edmonton is an area with great transport links, spacious houses and a rich sense of community with a recently regenerated shopping centre full of diverse restaurants and a brand-new fitness centre. West Lea School in Edmonton, N9 has been given an Outstanding OFSTED rating and is one of the best special needs schools in Enfield. The Latymer School is the borough’s Grammar school where approximately thirty to forty pupils gain places at Oxbridge each year. One of many attractions in N18 is Millfield Theatre opened on December 15, 1988 in the grounds of Millfield House on Silver Street in Edmonton, North London. It was the first new theatre built in London after the National Theatre. Their annual Christmas pantomime is well-loved by local residents and those beyond. For more practical perks you can stock up on chairs/beds/jars at the nearby Ikea in Edmonton if you don’t find everything you need in Edmonton Green Shopping Centre.
